We study an infinite horizon periodic stochastic inventory system consisting of retail outlets and customers located on a homogenous line segment. In each period, the total demand, generated by the customers on the line, is normally distributed. To better match supply and demand, we incorporate lateral transshipments. We propose a compact model in which the strategic decisions—the number and locations of retail outlets—are determined simultaneously with the operational decisions—the inventory replenishment and transshipment quantities. We find the optimal balance between the risk‐pooling considerations, which drive down the optimal number of retail outlets, and lateral transshipments, which drive up the optimal number of retail outlets. We also explore the sensitivity of the optimal number of retail outlets to various problem parameters. This paper explores the impact of moving to accrual budgeting on resources allocation in defence. Standard defence budgeting and investment models are used to assess the theoretical implications of accrual budgeting. In addition, a number of simulations are conducted to assess the long-term implications of moving to accrual accounting and budgeting. The result of the simulations shows that changes to deployed operations and other operational shocks will have manageable impacts on readiness but systematic shocks associated with defence unit prices, procurement policies and defence specific inflation will put considerable strain on the defence department's flexibility. 相似文献

In recent years many large government and commercial organizations have developed large-scale management information systems. During the early phases of any system development, questions are likely to be raised concerning the criteria of completeness and accuracy of the data. How to respond to these questions is difficult, and represents the general subject of this paper. In particular, this paper describes the application of statistical techniques, namely, various kinds of multivariate data analysis, to the problem of assessing the quality of a large-scale data collection system in the U. S. Navy. Results of using these techniques are described and indicate their usefulness as auditing procedures. While the discussion is placed in a particular context, the procedures should be of value for other large-scale information systems. 相似文献
