A significant problem in electronic system design is that of partitioning the functional elements of an equipment schematic into subsets which may be regarded as modules. The collection of all such subsets generated by a particular partitioning forms a potential modular design. The specific problem is to determine that partitioning of the schematic that minimizes a cost function defined on the subsets subject to specified hardware, design, packaging, and inventory constraints. This problem is termed the modularization problem. This paper presents a method for obtaining restricted solutions to the modularization problem by employing some recent developments in linear graph theory obtained by one of the coauthors. While the method is applied to the primal geometric program, it is shown to retain the geometric programming duality relationships. The loading problem we consinder is to assign a set of discrete objects, each having a weight, to a set of boxes, each of which has a capacity limit, in such a way that every object is assigned to a box and the number of boxes used is minimized. A characterization of the assignments is offered and used to develop a set of rules for generating nonredundant assignments. The rules are incorporated into an implicit enumeration algorithm. The algorithm is tested against a very good heuristic. Computational experience shows that the algorithm is highly efficient, solving problems of up to 3600 0-1 variables in a CPU second. 相似文献

In this paper formulas are derived for the reliability of a single unit to which identical spares in standby are allocated, with all of these units having a hyper-exponential or Erlang distributed lifetime. Two advantages are obtained by using these distributions. First, the general procedure for calculating the effect of redundancy is applicable, in contrast with most of the common life distributions, such as Weibull. Consider a reliability system consisting of n components. The failures and the repair completions of the components can occur only at positive integer-valued times k ϵ N++ ϵ (1, 2, …). The system state is also either up or down and it depends on the states of the components through a coherent structure function τ. In this article we formulate mathematically the above model and we derive some of its properties. Determination of the gunfire probability of kill against a target requires two parameters to be taken into consideration: the likelihood of hitting the target (susceptibility) and the conditional probability of kill given a hit (vulnerability). Two commonly used methods for calculating the latter probability are (1) treating each hit upon the target independently, and (2) setting an exact number of hits to obtain a target kill. Each of these methods contains an implicit assumption about the probability distribution of the number of hits‐to‐kill. Method (1) assumes that the most likely kill scenario occurs with exactly one hit, whereas (2) implies that achieving a precise number of hits always results in a kill. These methods can produce significant differences in the predicted gun effectiveness, even if the mean number of hits‐to‐kill for each distribution is the same. We therefore introduce a new modeling approach with a more general distribution for the number of hits‐to‐kill. The approach is configurable to various classes of damage mechanism and is able to match both methods (1) and (2) with a suitable choice of parameter. The article considers a two-person competitive problem in which a traveller wishes to choose a path across a rectangle from left to right in such a way as to avoid being ambushed by his adversary who has placed obstacles within the rectangle. Our results supplement those that have already been obtained by Ruckle and they indicate that, under certain conditions, the players need to adopt rather sophisticated strategies if they are to act optimally.
