A proof for the longest-job-first policy in one-machine scheduling

We consider a one-machine scheduling problem with earliness and tardiness penalties. All jobs are assigned a common due date and the objective is to minimize the total penalty due to job earliness and tardiness. We are interested in finding the optimal combination of the common due-date value and the job sequence. Despite the fact that this problem in general is very hard to solve, we prove that there exists at least a common property for all optimal solutions: The first job in an optimal sequence is one of the longest jobs. We also prove that this property holds for a general class of unimodal penalty functions.

Mean residual life of coherent systems consisting of multiple types of dependent components

Mean residual life is a useful dynamic characteristic to study reliability of a system. It has been widely considered in the literature not only for single unit systems but also for coherent systems. This article is concerned with the study of mean residual life for a coherent system that consists of multiple types of dependent components. In particular, the survival signature based generalized mixture representation is obtained for the survival function of a coherent system and it is used to evaluate the mean residual life function. Furthermore, two mean residual life functions under different conditional events on components’ lifetimes are also defined and studied.

伪距定位中的GDOP最小值

讨论了一文计算伪距定位中GDOP最小值时数学上的缺陷和不严格性,指出文献在计算GDOP最小值时没有考虑到对应于钟差的特征值在值域上有限制,从而推导出的最小值不可能得到.对多站布阵时GDOP最小值进行了重新推导,给出不同站点数目时GDOP最小值的通式,并给出GDOP达到最小值时的布阵分布.     

浅谈汽车炸弹的特点和防范手段

简述了汽车炸弹的特点及其实施战术,提出防范汽车炸弹的几种方法。一是研究爆炸物探测原理,配备先进的爆炸物探测装备;二是部署拦截装置;三是通过各种工程措施加强对重要目标的防护。     

弹丸速度的数字化激光幕测试技术

针对传统弹丸速度测量方法的局限,提出一种新的弹丸速度测试技术——数字化激光幕结合互相关速度测量算法的测试技术,并给出了激光总体测速方案、测速原理以及互相关测速方法,经靶场试验验证测试效果良好。     

Nonperiodic preventive maintenance for repairable systems

As a complex system with multiple components usually deteriorates with age, preventive maintenance (PM) is often performed to keep the system functioning in a good state to prolong its effective age. In this study, a nonhomogeneous Poisson process with a power law failure intensity is used to describe the deterioration of a repairable system, and the optimal nonperiodic PM schedule can be determined to minimize the expected total cost per unit time. However, since the determination of such optimal PM policies may involve numerous uncertainties, which typically make the analyses difficult to perform because of the scarcity of data, a Bayesian decision model, which utilizes all available information effectively, is also proposed for determining the optimal PM strategies. A numerical example with a real failure data set is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results show that the optimal schedules derived by Bayesian approach are relatively more conservative than that for non‐Bayesian approach because of the uncertainty of the intensity function, and if the intensity function are updated using the collected data set, which indicates more severe deterioration than the prior belief, replacing the entire system instead of frequent PM activities before serious deterioration is suggested. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Supply chain coordination with shelf‐space and retail price dependent demand and heterogeneous retailers

We consider supply chain coordination in which a manufacturer supplies some product to multiple heterogeneous retailers and wishes to coordinate the supply chain via wholesale price and holding cost subsidy. The retail price is either exogenous or endogenous. The market demand is described by the market share attraction model based on all retailers'shelf‐spaces and retail prices. We obtain optimal solutions for the centralized supply chain, where the optimal retail pricing is a modified version of the well‐known cost plus pricing strategy. We further get feasible contracts for the manufacturer to coordinate the hybrid and decentralized supply chains. The manufacturer can allocate the total profit free to himself and the retail market via the wholesale price when the retail price is exogenous, but otherwise he cannot. Finally, we point out that different characteristics of the retail market are due to different powers of the manufacturer, and the more power the manufacturer has, the simpler the contract to coordinate the chain will be. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
