The philosophies of unconventional warfare philosophers can be divided into four schools. The classicists, or early school, represented by Sun Tzu and his ‘indirect approach’, have existed for thousands of years. Marxist‐Leninist revolutionaries gave new emphasis to unconventional warfare as a vehicle for revolution. The theories of these philosophers of the middle school were opposed by those of counterrevolutionaries. With the end of the Cold War, a new strategic environment is emerging, giving rise to new school philosophers reacting to that challenge. They include both those who seek to undermine the nation‐state and those, who, like the earlier counter‐revolutionaries, seek to defend and promote its interests.  相似文献

Faced with stochastic demand, a firm may decide to assemble its products in advance or assemble them once actual demand is realized. In general, the production cost for items assembled in advance (AIA) is lower than for items assembled to order (ATO), because there is no need to expedite, and the production process can be planned and executed well in advance. On the other hand, items assembled in advance (AIA) for which there is no demand incur excessive and unnecessary assembly costs. The two policies, AIA and ATO, as well as a composite one, are compared and analyzed in light of these trade-offs. The composite model, which is shown as the dominating policy, is also extended to deal with the following two scenarios. The first assumes a loss of a fraction of the demand when demand cannot be satisfied from the shelf but rather through ATO. In this paper formulas are derived for the reliability of a single unit to which identical spares in standby are allocated, with all of these units having a hyper-exponential or Erlang distributed lifetime. Two advantages are obtained by using these distributions. First, the general procedure for calculating the effect of redundancy is applicable, in contrast with most of the common life distributions, such as Weibull. Moreover, both distributions are suitable for matching to observed curves and practical data by varying the values of the parameters, covering together most of the cases of practical interest.  相似文献

To location Li we are to allocate a “generator” and ni “machines” for i = 1, …,k, where n1n1 ≧ … ≧ nk. Although the generators and machines function independently of one another, a machine is operable only if it and the generator at its location are functioning. The problem we consider is that of finding the arrangement or allocation optimizing the number of operable machines. We show that if the objective is to maximize the expected number of operable machines at some future time, then it is best to allocate the best generator and the n1 best machines to location L1, the second-best generator and the n2-next-best machines to location L2, etc. However, this arrangement is not always stochastically optimal. For the case of two generators we give a necessary and sufficient condition that this arrangement is stochastically best, and illustrate the result with several examples.  相似文献
