The Botswana Defence Force and the War against Poachers in Southern Africa

‘Semper aliquid novi Africa affert’ (out of Africa this is always something new) wrote the Roman scholar Pliny the Elder, and that has been all too true of catastrophe and misery in modern times. Yet despite Africa's problems, the continent also offers many examples of humankind's most commendable achievements. This is one such story. It is the account of the successful struggle by a small but well disciplined and well led African army to protect a vital national resource, a role performed with dedication and consistent success since 1987. The fight against poaching in Botswana is a peculiar form of low-intensity conflict that poses significant political, operational and technical challenges. This article identifies some of those challenges and notes how the Botswana Defence Force overcame them, providing an example that may profitably be emulated elsewhere. The article also calls attention to evolution of military roles and missions in reaction to the novel threats of post the Cold War world.

采用MSC.Patran参数化建模和遗传算法进行包带式星箭连接结构优化设计。首先给出了包带连接结构二维轴对称模型优化设计过程中涉及的V形卡块刚度等效、包带预紧力模拟和载荷施加方法,以及强度和刚度约束条件、优化目标等内容;然后以某直径为3m的包带连接结构为例进行了优化设计,并分析了对接框内延伸段长度和端头高度对应力及变形的影响;最后建立三维有限元模型进行静力分析。结果表明（1）该方法适用于包带连接结构的优化设计;（2）增加对接框内延伸段长度和端头高度能够提高整体连接刚度;（3）三维有限元模型与轴对称模型计算结果一致,验证了轴对称模型分析方法的正确性,以及V形卡块等效和预紧力模拟方法的有效性。

有机醇质量浓度对Si3N4陶瓷磨削过程的影响

磨削液质量浓度对磨削过程的使用效果和应用成本具有很大的影响.对摩擦学性能、黏度、热容3个参数进行研究,探讨有机醇磨削液质量浓度改变对Si3N4陶瓷磨削性能的影响.试验结果表明:在切磨过程中,可以选用质量浓度较低的磨削液;而对于平磨和外圆磨削等,宜选用质量浓度较高的磨削液.     

STRATEGIC DEFENSE AND ATTACK FOR SERIES AND PARALLEL RELIABILITY SYSTEMS: COMMENT

The contest-theoretic literature on the attack and defense of networks of targets focuses primarily on pure-strategy Nash equilibria. Hausken's 2008 European Journal of Operational Research article typifies this approach, and many of the models in this literature either build upon this model or utilize similar techniques. We show that Hausken's characterization of Nash equilibrium is invalid for much of the parameter space examined and provides necessary conditions for his solution to hold. The complete characterization of mixed-strategy equilibria remains an open problem, although there exist solutions in the literature for special prominent cases.

针对卫星网络组密钥管理的重要性,提出了一个可认证的基于门限秘密共享的组密钥管理方案．结合卫星网络的动态拓扑结构特点,将地面站作为组成员的身份注册中心,以实现对组成员的身份认证,确保节点的合法性．为了提高组密钥的生成效率,选取≠一1颗可见时间长的卫星构建组密钥份额分发中心,降低了组密钥联合生成过程中的通信量．组密钥协商无需安全信道,节省了系统资源．安全性及性能分析表明,该方案不仅具有较强的安全性,而且还具有计算和通信量小的优点．参数分析表明,门限值k与组密钥更新周期T是影响方案安全性的2个重要因子．
