Bivariate models from univariate life distributions: A characterization cum modeling approach

Bivariate life distribution models are of importance for studying interdependent components. We present a generic approach by introducing a new concept of characterized model in stead of a characterized distribution. It strikes a balance between characterization and modeling approaches to eliminate their individual limitations and incorporate their respective strengths. The proposed model, being a characterized one, admits many important properties irrespective of the choice of marginal distributions. The retention of univariate IFR, DFR, IFRA, DFRA, NBU, and NWU class properties in the bivariate setup has been ensured along with some results on series combinations and convolution. No other models, available in the literature, can ensure simultaneous retention of these fundamental and extremely important class properties. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. NONPROLIFERATION POLICY CROSSROADS:

On October 1, 2008, Congress enacted a proposal that originated with President George W. Bush in 2005 to approve an unprecedented nuclear trade pact with India by removing a central pillar of US nonproliferation policy. Despite the numerous political challenges confronting the Bush administration, the initiative won strong bipartisan support, including votes from Democratic Senators Joseph Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama. The four-year struggle to pass the controversial US-India nuclear trade agreement offers an exceptionally valuable case study. It demonstrates a classic tradeoff between the pursuit of broad multilateral goals such as nuclear nonproliferation and advancement of a specific bilateral relationship. It reveals enduring fault lines in executive branch relations with Congress. It vividly portrays challenges confronting proponents of a strong nonproliferation regime. This article is based on an analysis of the negotiating record and congressional deliberations, including interviews with key participants. It assesses the lessons learned and focuses on three principal questions: how did the agreement seek to advance US national security interests?; what were the essential elements of the prolonged state-of-the-art lobbying campaign to win approval from skeptics in Congress?; and what are the agreement's actual benefits—and costs—to future US nonproliferation efforts?     

JTIDS系统扩频码的优选及扩频图案的设计

首先介绍了联合战术信息分发系统(JTIDS)的一般概念,进而针对它的抗干扰措施———直接序列扩频的扩频码的优选及扩频图案的设计,提出了合适的算法,并用C语言在微机上仿真实现。实验结果证明优选的码字质量高,生成速度快,此方面的仿真实现逼近JTIDS,有利于对JTIDS进行深入研究,从而对它实施有效干扰。

对潜艇300 kW燃料电池几种可行的气体处理方案进行了对比分析,并运用模糊综合评判方法建立了方案优选模型.研究表明,应用旋转床吸收器吸收废气中的二氧化碳,并配以相应的水处理系统,将二氧化碳排至舷外的方案是最佳方案.     

基于ANN模式识别的某型导弹测试车配电系统故障诊断

人工神经网络诊断特点与基于模式识别的诊断特点非常相似。将ANN模式识别技术应用于某型导弹测试车配电系统故障诊断。根据测试车配电系统的故障特点,设计ANN为4层BP网络,具有9个输入、10个输出,两个隐含层神经元数目分别为9和6。测试结果表明该方法能有效诊断测试车配电系统故障。     

低压终端线路无功补偿技术

随着经济发展,低压终端线路,特别是住宅负荷中,无功需求急剧增加。基于这一现状,提出了低压终端线路无功补偿问题。分析探讨了终端无功补偿设备与传统补偿设备的差异及应具的技术和特色,构划了系统总体设计方案,明确了该装置开发研究中应关注的主要问题及处理措施,指出开发专门终端无功补偿的必要性和紧迫性,为低压终端线路补偿装置的研制奠定了基础。
