Like airlines and hotels, sports teams and entertainment venues can benefit from revenue management efforts for their ticket sales. Teams and entertainment venues usually offer bundles of tickets early in their selling horizon and put single‐event tickets on sale at a later date; these organizations must determine the best time to offer individual tickets because both types of ticket sales consume the same fixed inventory. We model the optimal a priori timing decision for a seller with a fixed number of identical tickets to switch from selling the tickets as fixed bundles to individual tickets to maximize the revenue realized before the start of the performance season. We assume that bundle and single‐ticket customers each arrive according to independent, nonhomogeneous Markovian death processes with a linear death rate that can vary over time and that the benefit from selling a ticket in a package is higher than from selling the ticket individually. We characterize the circumstances in which it is optimal for the seller to practice mixed bundling and when the seller should only sell bundles or individual tickets, and we establish comparative statics for the optimal timing decision for the special case of constant customer arrival rates. We extend our analytical results to find the optimal time for offering two groups of tickets with high and low demand. Whereas much of the previous research in complex systems has focused on emergent properties resulting from self‐organization of the individual agents that make up the system, this article studies one vital role of central organization. In particular, four factors are conjectured to be key in determining the optimal amount of central control. To validate this hypothesis, these factors are represented as controllable parameters in a mathematical model. For different combinations of parameter values, the optimal amount of central control is found, either analytically or by computer simulation. The model is shown to provide results that match well with the level of control found across a broad spectrum of specific complex systems. This model also provides general guidelines as to how combinations of these factors affect the desirable level of control and specific guidelines for selecting and evaluating leaders. These results indicate that all of these factors, though not exhaustive, should be considered carefully when attempting to determine the amount of control that is best for a system. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 为进行电磁仿生研究,提高复杂电磁环境下控制系统运行的可靠性,在一种新型计算机系统结构框架的基础上,提出了多核异构冗余模型,设计了互关总线协议,实现了相应的容错策略,进而进行了异构双机冗余系统的实验,并利用马尔可夫过程模型分析了系统的电磁抗扰能力。实验表明,该模型能够有效地提高系统可靠性,满足相关仿生研究的设计要求。  相似文献

为探究某型两栖装甲车辆车体关键部位的疲劳失效原因,测取了不同路面工况下的载荷谱。采用雨流计数法对实测载荷谱进行计数,得到了相应载荷谱中应力循环的均值、幅值计数结果,利用数理统计的方法得到了各种路况的载荷分布模型,为疲劳分析提供了重要的数据并为海上试验及数据分析奠定了基础。雨流法及分布函数参数估计的程序实现,大大提高了随机应力谱的统计处理速度。  相似文献

We study the dynamic profit maximization problem for a firm exercising control on both marketing and production. The firs marketing effort impacts the current‐period demand, which in turn affects future demand in a dissipating fashion. Under linear‐cost and zero‐leadtime assumptions, we show that the firm should follow base‐point rules for both marketing and production, whereas trends of the base points reflect a certain complementarity between marketing and production. We obtain comparable results when marketing costs are convex. Our computational study identifies conditions under which simple fixed‐marketing‐effort and fixed‐marketing‐target heuristics would perform well. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present transient and asymptotic reliability indices for a single‐unit system that is subject to Markov‐modulated shocks and wear. The transient results are derived from the (transform) solution of an integro‐differential equation describing the joint distribution of the cumulative degradation process and the state of the modulating process. Additionally, we prove the asymptotic normality of a properly centered and time‐scaled version of the cumulative degradation at time t. This asymptotic result leads to a simple normal approximation for a properly centered and space‐scaled version of the systes lifetime distribution. 建立了描述车辆姿态向量和重力向量的两个坐标系,研究了姿态向量与坐标变换之间的关系,根据Solid-Works提供的函数,利用二分法求解了给定姿态下的浮心位置;以浮心计算为基础,通过对车辆的受力分析和运动分析,确定了车辆浮态的计算方法;利用SolidWorks的API函数进行二次开发,形成了计算静稳性的程序,并进行了实例计算。结果表明:与传统的作图法相比较,该方法计算结果更精确,计算速度更快。  相似文献
