主动代理技术在网管中的应用

文中首先介绍传统SNMP网络管理系统结构并指出其在管理大规模异构网络时存在的不足,然后引入主动网络技术并对其在网络管理方面的优势进行分析,在此基础上提出一种基于主动代理技术的网络管理模型。重点描述作为该模型核心部件的主动代理的实现方法,对用于实现各种网络管理功能的主动报文进行设计。最后,给出一个例子进一步说明主动报文的封装技术,并对该网管模型设计中的相关问题进行进一步阐述。     

基于Web Service网络管理体系结构研究

传统层次型网络管理体系结构中网络管理系统之间交互困难。基于Web Service体系结构的思想,将网络管理系统提供的管理功能抽象成管理服务,提出了具有面向服务、动态协作等特点的基于Web Service的网络管理体系结构,并详细讨论了该体系结构涉及的网络管理资源和服务的描述方法以及服务组合技术。

Scheduling patients in an ambulatory surgical center

This paper presents a deterministic approach to schedule patients in an ambulatory surgical center (ASC) such that the number of postanesthesia care unit nurses at the center is minimized. We formulate the patient scheduling problem as new variants of the no‐wait, two‐stage process shop scheduling problem and present computational complexity results for the new scheduling models. Also, we develop a tabu search‐based heuristic algorithm to solve the patient scheduling problem. Our algorithm is shown to be very effective in finding near optimal schedules on a set of real data from a university hospital's ASC. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Inducing coordination in supply chains through linear reward schemes

Decentralized decision‐making in supply chain management is quite common, and often inevitable, due to the magnitude of the chain, its geographical dispersion, and the number of agents that play a role in it. But, decentralized decision‐making is known to result in inefficient Nash equilibrium outcomes, and optimal outcomes that maximize the sum of the utilities of all agents need not be Nash equilibria. In this paper we demonstrate through several examples of supply chain models how linear reward/penalty schemes can be implemented so that a given optimal solution becomes a Nash equilibrium. The examples represent both vertical and horizontal coordination issues. The techniques we employ build on a general framework for the use of linear reward/penalty schemes to induce stability in given optimal solutions and should be useful to other multi‐agent operations management settings. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Quarrelsome committees in US defense acquisition: the KC-X case

When the US Air Force set out to acquire a new aerial tanker (the KC-X), two highly suitable alternatives were offered. What could have been a short and simple source selection turned into a prolonged embarrassment. The original selection of 100 leased KC-767s was made in May 2003. But the KC-46 is expected to be operational in 2017 – more than a decade later. Our primary purpose here is to narrate and explain key events in the KC-X program. We search for useful paradigms, based in part on the US Government being better viewed as a quarrelsome committee than a monopsonist. In addition, we consider what this case might tell us about the US defense acquisition system.
