Countermeasures and developmental trends of the US Defense Space Force based on the interpretation of the US Defense Space Strategy in 2020

The development of a national space force is a strategic fulcrum for the United States in the context of competition among major global powers. To maintain its dominance in space, the Trump administration continually advanced the cause of space militarization. It issued a National Space Strategy, signed new space policy directives, and established a sixth branch of the military called the "Space Force". In June 2020, the United States published the latest version of the Defense Space Strategy, an analysis of which can reflect the developmental defensive trend of the US Space Force. This study used an Internet survey to collect US policy documents and reports by well-known think tanks on the defensive developments of its space force in recent years. The US Defense Space Strategy document in 2020 is treated as the central text. The motivations, goals, and action plans for the development of a US defense strategy in space are summarized through an analysis of the literature. As a responsible and developing space power, China should learn from and respond to the US defense space strategy by strengthening and improving its military technology for defense in space, and promoting a foreign policy agenda for the peaceful use of outer space.
