The bivariate negative binomial distribution of Mitchell and Paulson [17] for the case b = c = 0 is shown to be equivalent to the accident proneness model of Edwards and Gurland [4] and Subrahmaniam [19,20]. The diagonal series expansion of its joint probability function is then derived. Two other formulations of this distribution are also considered: (i) as a mixture model, which showed how it arises as the discrete analogue to the Wicksell-Kibble bivariate gamma distribution, and (ii) as a consequence of the linear birth-and-death process with immigration.  相似文献

Accelerated life testing (ALT) is concerned with subjecting items to a series of stresses at several levels higher than those experienced under normal conditions so as to obtain the lifetime distribution of items under normal levels. A parametric approach to this problem requires two assumptions. First, the lifetime of an item is assumed to have the same distribution under all stress levels, that is, a change of stress level does not change the shape of the life distribution but changes only its scale. Second, a functional relationship is assumed between the parameters of the life distribution and the accelerating stresses. A nonparametric approach, on the other hand, assumes a functional relationship between the life distribution functions at the accelerated and nonaccelerated stress levels without making any assumptions on the forms of the distribution functions. In this paper, we treat the problem nonparametrically. In particular, we extend the methods of Shaked, Zimmer, and Ball [7] and Strelec and Viertl [8] and develop a nonparametric estimation procedure for a version of the generalized Arrhenius model with two stress variables assuming a linear acceleration function. We obtain consistent estimates as well as confidence intervals of the parameters of the life distribution under normal stress level and compare our nonparametric method with parametric methods assuming exponential, Weibull and lognormal life distributions using both real life and simulated data. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In a recent paper, Kent and Quesenberry [19] considered using certain optimal invariant statistics to select the best fitting member of a collection of probability distributions using complete samples of life data. In the present work extensions of this approach in two directions are given. First, selection for complete samples based on scale and shape invariant statistics is considered. Next, the selection problem for type I censored samples is considered, and both scale invariant and maximum likelihood selection procedures are studied. The two-parameter (scale and shape) Weibull, lognormal, and gamma distributions are considered and applications to real data are given. Results from a (small) comparative simulation study are presented.  相似文献

A unified treatment is given for a class of discrete distributions derived by compounding a bivariate Poisson with a bivariate discrete or continuous distribution. Using generating functions a number of interesting results are obtained for probabilities, moments, cumulants, factorial moments, and factorial cumulants. A number of results pertaining to preservation of aging properties (IFR, IFRA etc.) under various shock models are available in the literature. Our aim in this paper is to examine in the same spirit, the preservation of unimodality under various shock models. For example, it is proved that in a non-homogeneous Poisson shock model if {pk}K≥0, the sequence of probabilities with which the device fails on the kth shock, is unimodal then under some suitable conditions on the mean value function Λ (t), the corresponding survival function is also unimodal. The other shock models under which the preservation of unimodality is considered in this paper are pure birth shock model and a more general shock model in which shocks occur according to a general counting process. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. New closure theorems for shock models in reliability theory are presented. If the number of shocks to failure and the times between the arrivals of shocks have probability distributions of phase type, then so has the time to failure. PH-distributions are highly versatile and may be used to model many qualitative features of practical interest. They are also well-suited for algorithmic implementation. The computational aspects of our results are discussed in some detail.  相似文献

Bivariate life distribution models are of importance for studying interdependent components. We present a generic approach by introducing a new concept of characterized model in stead of a characterized distribution. It strikes a balance between characterization and modeling approaches to eliminate their individual limitations and incorporate their respective strengths. The proposed model, being a characterized one, admits many important properties irrespective of the choice of marginal distributions. The retention of univariate IFR, DFR, IFRA, DFRA, NBU, and NWU class properties in the bivariate setup has been ensured along with some results on series combinations and convolution. No other models, available in the literature, can ensure simultaneous retention of these fundamental and extremely important class properties. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The intent of this paper is to demonstrate that the theory of stationary point processes is a useful tool for the analysis of stationary inventory systems. In conventional inventory theory, the equilibrium distributions for a specified inventory policy are obtained, whenever possible, by recursive or limiting procedures, or both. A different and more direct approach, based on stationary point processes, is proposed here. The time instants at which stock delivery is effected are viewed as points of the stationary point process, which possesses uniform statistical properties on the entire real axis; hence the equilibrium statistics of the inventory process can be calculated directly. In order to best illustrate this approach, various examples are given, including some that constitute new results.  相似文献

In progressive censoring, items are removed at certain times during the life test. Commonly, it is assumed that the removed items are used for further testing. In order to take into account information about these additional testing in inferential procedures, we propose a two‐step model of stage life testing with one fixed stage‐change time which incorporates information about both the removed items (further tested under different conditions) and those remaining in the current life test. We show that some marginal distributions in our model correspond either to progressive censoring with a fixed censoring time or to a simple‐step stress model. Furthermore, assuming a cumulative exposure model, we establish exact inferential results for the distribution parameters when the lifetimes are exponentially distributed. An extension to Weibull distributed lifetimes is also discussed.  相似文献

Nonparametric classes of life distributions are usually based on the pattern of aging in some sense. The common parametric families of life distributions also feature monotone aging. In this paper we consider the class of log‐concave distributions and the subclass of concave distributions. The work is motivated by the fact that most of the common parametric models of life distributions (including Weibull, Gamma, log‐normal, Pareto, and Gompertz distributions) are log‐concave, while the remaining life of maintained and old units tend to have a concave distribution. The classes of concave and log‐concave distributions do not feature monotone aging. Nevertheless, these two classes are shown to have several interesting and useful properties. We examine the closure of these classes under a number of reliability operations, and provide sharp reliability bounds for nonmaintained and maintained units having life distribution belonging to these classes. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 在单凹腔燃烧室中引入侧壁激波,为研究燃烧室内部流动特性,采用纳米粒子平面激光散射技术和粒子图像测速技术对全尺寸玻璃燃烧室模型进行流场观测,获得了冷态流场展向和法向的瞬态灰度图及平均速度场。实验结果表明:在远壁面区域,凹腔内部速度与密度都较低;引入侧壁激波后,近壁面区域凹腔与主流的质量与动量交换增强,速度与密度升高;受到侧壁激波影响,燃烧室底壁边界层不再均匀,凹腔中后部产生大规模低速区,具有明显三维特性。  相似文献

Capacity expansion models are typically formulated in the context of some finite horizon. Because the firm lasts longer than the horizon, a bias can enter into the optimal solution from the model horizon chosen. Recently, Grinold [8] has proposed a “dual-equilibrium method” for ameliorating possible distortions. Although the dual-equilibrium method has superior analytical properties to other methods, it is conceptually more complex. In this paper it is shown that there are situations where the “primal-equilibrium” approach of Manne [15] provides equivalent results and that the use of annualized capital costs in the objective function, although somewhat less efficient, results in a similar model.  相似文献

We consider optimal test plans involving life distributions with failure‐free life, i.e., where there is an unknown threshold parameter below which no failure will occur. These distributions do not satisfy the regularity conditions and thus the usual approach of using the Fisher information matrix to obtain an optimal accelerated life testing (ALT) plan cannot be applied. In this paper, we assume that lifetime follows a two‐parameter exponential distribution and the stress‐life relationship is given by the inverse power law model. Near‐optimal test plans for constant‐stress ALT under both failure‐censoring and time‐censoring are obtained. We first obtain unbiased estimates for the parameters and give the approximate variance of these estimates for both failure‐censored and time‐censored data. Using these results, the variance for the approximate unbiased estimate of a percentile at a design stress is computed and then minimized to produce the near‐optimal plan. Finally, a numerical example is presented together with simulation results to study the accuracy of the approximate variance given by the proposed plan and show that it outperforms the equal‐allocation plan. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this paper, a statistical analytic model for evaluation of the performance of a standard electric bomb fuze timer is presented. The model is based on what is called a selective design assembly, where one item, namely, a resistor, is used to time the circuit. In such an assembly, the remaining components are chosen a priori from predetermined distributions. Based on the analysis, a general numerical integration scheme is utilized for assessing performance of the timer. The results of a computer simulation are also given. In the last section of the paper, a theory for evaluation of the yield of two or more timers designed to operate in sequence is derived. To appraise such a scheme, a numerical quadrature routine is developed.  相似文献

This article deals with the investigation of the effects of porosity distributions on nonlinear free vibration and transient analysis of porous functionally graded skew (PFGS) plates. The effective material properties of the PFGS plates are obtained from the modified power-law equations in which gradation varies through the thickness of the PFGS plate. A nonlinear finite element (FE) formulation for the overall PFGS plate is derived by adopting first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) in conjunction with von Karman’s nonlinear strain displacement relations. The governing equations of the PFGS plate are derived using the principle of virtual work. The direct iterative method and Newmark’s integration technique are espoused to solve nonlinear mathematical relations. The influences of the porosity distributions and porosity parameter indices on the nonlinear frequency responses of the PFGS plate for different skew angles are studied in various parameters. The effects of volume fraction grading index and skew angle on the plate’s nonlinear dynamic responses for various porosity distributions are illustrated in detail.  相似文献
