The cyclic separation scheduling problem

This paper deals with the problem of scheduling items (tasks, employees, equipment, etc.) over a finite time horizon so as to minimize total cost expenditures while maintaining a predefined separation between certain items. The problem is cyclic, because the same schedule will be repeated over several consecutive time periods of equal length. Thus, requirements are present to maintain the separation of items not only within the individual time periods considered, but also between items in adjoining periods. A special purpose branch-and-bound algorithm is developed to solve this scheduling problem by taking advantage of its cyclic nature. Computational results are given.

Multiobjective fractional programming duality theory

Results of Geoffrion for efficient and properly efficient solutions of multiobjective programming problems are extended to multiobjective fractional programming problems. Duality relationships are given for these problems where the functions are generalized convex or invex.

本文根据附面层理论,对高速气流中的液滴,因气流和液滴表面相互作用而产生的气动剥离现象进行了分析,建立了气液两相附面层耦合问题的理论分析模型,得到了发生气动剥离时的最小气流速度的计算公式,为液体燃料在高速气流申雾化机理研究提供参考。     

Scheduling of depalletizing and truck loading operations in a food distribution system

This paper studies a scheduling problem arising in a beef distribution system where pallets of various types of beef products in the warehouse are first depalletized and then individual cases are loaded via conveyors to the trucks which deliver beef products to various customers. Given each customer's demand for each type of beef, the problem is to find a depalletizing and truck loading schedule that fills all the demands at a minimum total cost. We first show that the general problem where there are multiple trucks and each truck covers multiple customers is strongly NP‐hard. Then we propose polynomial‐time algorithms for the case where there are multiple trucks, each covering only one customer, and the case where there is only one truck covering multiple customers. We also develop an optimal dynamic programming algorithm and a heuristic for solving the general problem. By comparing to the optimal solutions generated by the dynamic programming algorithm, the heuristic is shown to be capable of generating near optimal solutions quickly. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
