This article considers batch scheduling with centralized and decentralized decisions. The context of our study is concurrent open shop scheduling where the jobs are to be processed on a set of independent dedicated machines, which process designated operations of the jobs in batches. The batching policy across the machines can be centralized or decentralized. We study such scheduling problems with the objectives of minimizing the maximum lateness, weighted number of tardy jobs, and total weighted completion time, when the job sequence is determined in advance. We present polynomial time dynamic programming algorithms for some cases of these problems and pseudo‐polynomial time algorithms for some problems that are NP‐hard in the ordinary sense. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Egypt plays a pivotal role in the security of the Middle East as the doorway to Europe and its military expenditure reflects its involvement in the machinations of such an unstable region, showing considerable variation over the last 40?years. These characteristics make it a particularly interesting case study of the determinants of military spending. This paper specifies and estimates an econometric model of the Egyptian demand for military spending, taking into account important strategic and political factors. Both economic and strategic factors are found to play a role in determining military burden/spending, with clear positive effects of lagged military burden, suggesting some sort of institutional inertia, plus negative output and net exports effects. The strategic effect as a result of the impact of Israel’s military burden is mostly positive and significant, though its impact is reduced when the impact of important strategic events are taken into account. The military spending of Egypt’s allies Jordan and Syria generally seems to have had no effect on Egypt’s spending. These results are consistent over a range of econometric techniques.  相似文献

Computerized Scheduling of Seagoing Tankers The tanker scheduling problem considered in this paper is that of the Defense Fuel Supply Center (DFSC) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC) in the worldwide distribution of bulk petroleum products. Routes and cargoes which meet delivery schedule dates for a multiplicity of product requirements at minimum cost are to be determined for a fleet of tankers. A general mathematical programming model is presented, and then a mixed integer model is developed which attempts to reflect the true scheduling task of DFSC and MSC as closely as possible. The problem is kept to within a workable size by the systematic construction of a set of tanker routes which does not contain many possible routes that can be judged unacceptable from practical considerations alone.  相似文献

The hyperbolic integer program is treated as a special case of a hyperbolic program with a finite number of feasible points. The continuous hyperbolic program also belongs to this class since its solution can be obtained by considering only the extreme points of the feasible set. A general algorithm for solving the hyperbolic integer program which reduces to solving a sequence of linear integer problems is proposed. When the integer restriction is removed, this algorithm is similar to the Isbell-Marlow procedure. The geometrical aspects of the hyperbolic problem are also discussed and several cutting plane algorithms are given.  相似文献

Classical inventory models generally assume either no backlogging of demands or unlimited backlogging. This paper treats the case wherein backlogged customers are willing to wait for a random period of time for service. A broad class of such models is discussed, with a more complete analysis performed on a simple subclass. Steady state equations are derived and solved assuming exponentially distributed interarrival times of customers, order delivery lead times, and customer patience.  相似文献

According to “interference theory” of reliability, a component fails if the maximum stress exceeds the component's strength. Under certain conditions, the re-supply capability of a combatant force may be limited by the characteristics of the transportation network over which supplies must flow. Interdiction by an opposing force may be used to reduce the capacity of that network. The effects of such efforts vary for differing missions and targets. With only a limited total budget available, the interdictor must decide which targets to hit, and with how much effort. An algorithm is presented for determining the optimum interdiction plan for minimizing network flow capacity when the minimum capacity on an arc is positive and the cost of interdiction is a linear function of arc capacity reduction.  相似文献
