| Abstract: | The paper presents a brief discussion about the differences between the English social vocatives and the Chinese ones. It points out that both the pragmatic context and the English culture are considered in the English-Chinese translations of such vocatives. We translators are to seek the balance in the means of domestication and foreignization in order to achieve the purpose of cultural communications. |
