A production system which generates income is subject to random failure. Upon failure, the system is replaced by a new identical one and the replacement cycles are repeated indefinitely. In our breakdown model, shocks occur to the system in a Poisson stream. Each shock causes a random amount of damage, and these damages accumulate additively. The failure time depends on the accumulated damage in the system. The income from the system and the cost associated with a planned replacement depend on the accumulated damage in the system. An additional cost is incurred at each failure in service. We allow a controller to replace the system at any stopping time T before failure time. We will consider the problem of specifying a replacement rule that is optimal under the following criteria: maximum total long-run average net income per unit time, and maximum total long-run expected discounted net income. Our primary goal is to introduce conditions under which an optimal policy is a control limit policy and to investigate how the optimal policy can be obtained. Examples will be presented to illustrate computational procedures.  相似文献

A system deteriorates due to shocks received at random times, each shock causing a random amount of damage which accumulates over time and may result in a system failure. Replacement of a failed system is mandatory, while an operable one may also be replaced. In addition, the shock process causing system deterioration may be controlled by continuous preventive maintenance expenditures. The joint problem of optimal maintenance and replacement is analyzed and it is shown that, under reasonable conditions, optimal maintenance rate is decreasing in the cumulative damage level and that beyond a certain critical level the system should be replaced. Meaningful bounds are established on the optimal policies and an illustrative example is provided.  相似文献

A system receives shocks at random points of time. Each shock causes a random amount of damage which accumulates over time. The system fails when the accumulated damage exceeds a fixed threshold. Upon failure the system is replaced by a new one. The damage process is controlled by means of a maintenance policy. There are M possible maintenance actions. Given that a maintenance action m is employed, then the cumulative damage decreases at rate rm. Replacement costs and maintenance costs are considered. The objective is to determine an optimal maintenance policy under the following optimality criteria: (1) long-run average cost; (2) total expected discounted cost over an infinite horizon. For a diffusion approximation, we show that the optimal maintenance expenditure rate is monotonically increasing in the cumulative damage level.  相似文献

A system is subject to a sequence of randomly occurring shocks. Each shock causes a random amount of damage which accumulates additively. Any of the shocks might cause the system to fail. The shock process is in some sense related to an environmental process in order to describe randomly varying external factors of an economical and/or technical nature as well as internal factors of a statistical nature. A discrete time formulation of the problem is given. Sufficient conditions are found for optimality of a generalized control-limit rule with respect to the total cost criterion: Whenever the accumulated damage s is not less than a specified critical number t(i), depending on the environmental state i, replace the system by a new one; otherwise do not replace it. In this article we consider a cumulative damage shock model under a periodic preventive maintenance (PM) policy. The PM is imperfect in the sense that each PM reduces the damage level by 100(1 – b)%, 0 < b < 1. A system suffers damage due to shocks and fails when the damage level exceeds some threshold. We derive a sufficient condition for the time to failure to have an IFR distribution. We also discuss the associated problem of finding the number of PM's that minimizes the expected cost rate.  相似文献

This paper studies three tool replacement/operation sequencing strategies for a flexible manufacturing system over a finite time horizon: (1) failure replacement—replace the tool only upon failure, (2) optimal preventive tool replacement for a fixed sequence of operations, and (3) joint scheduling of the optimal preventive tool replacement times and the optimal sequence of operations. Stochastic dynamic decision models are used for strategies 2 and 3. The optimization criterion for strategies 2 and 3 is the minimization of the total expected cost over the finite time horizon. We will show through numerical studies that, with the same amount of information, the total expected costs can be reduced considerably by choosing an optimal strategy. Our conclusion is that in flexible manufacturing, optimal tool replacement and optimal operations sequencing are not separate issues. This paper characterizes the structure of optimal strategies for a replacement problem for two special cases of observation quality. It is shown that when the state of the system is either completely observed or completely unobserved at every decision epoch by the controller, reasonable assumptions are sufficient for the existence of optimal replacement strategies composed of policies having a generalized, control-limit form. These structural results are of particular interest since the optimal cost functions for the two special cases represent bounds on the optimal cost function for the general partially observed case, significant computational simplification can result for the two special cases due to their optimal strategy structure, and optimal strategies possessing a control-limit structure do not necessarily exist for the general partially observed case.  相似文献

A system is subject to shocks that arrive according to a nonhomogeneous Poisson process. As shocks occur a system has two types of failures. Type 1 failure (minor failure) is removed by a minimal repair, whereas type 2 failure (catastrophic failure) is removed by replacement. The probability of a type 2 failure is permitted to depend on the number of shocks since the last replacement. A system is replaced at the times of type 2 failure or at the nth type 1 failure, whichever comes first. The optimal policy is to select n* to minimize the expected cost per unit time for an infinite time span. Jones, Zydiak, and Hopp [1] consider the parallel machine replacement problem (PMRP), in which there are both fixed and variable costs associated with replacing machines. Increasing maintenance cost motivates replacements, and a fixed replacement cost provides incentive for replacing machines of the same age in clusters. They prove two intuitive but important results for finite- or infinite-horizon PMRPs, which significantly reduce the size of the linear programming (LP) formulation of the problem and computing efforts required to obtain an optimal replacement policy. Their results are the no-splitting rule (NSR) and the older cluster replacement rule (OCRR). Under a slightly weaker set of assumptions, we prove a third rule, the all-or-none rule (AONR), which states that in any period, an optimal policy is to keep or to replace all the machines regardless of age. We consider the parallel replacement problem in which there are both fixed and variable costs associated with replacing machines. Increasing maintenance costs motivate replacements, and the fixed replacement cost provides incentive for replacing machines of different ages together in “clusters.” We prove two intuitive results for this problem. First, it is never optimal to split a cluster of like-aged machines, and second, it is never optimal to replace newer clusters before older clusters. By incorporating these two results into an algorithmic approach, we vastly reduce the amount of computation required to identify an optimal replacement policy.  相似文献

We consider the following replacement model in reliability theory. A technical system with random lifetime is replaced upon failure. Preventive replacements can be carried out before failure. The time for such a replacement depends on the observation of a random state parameter and is therefore in general a random time. Different costs for preventive and failure replacements are introduced which may depend on the age of the working system. The optimization criterion followed here to find an optimal replacement time is to minimize the total expected discounted costs. The optimal replacement policy depends on the observation of the state of the system. Results of the theory of stochastic processes are used to obtain the optimal strategy for different information levels. Several examples based on a two-component parallel system with possibly dependent component lifetimes show how the optimal replacement policy depends on the different information levels and on the degree of dependence of the components. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

针对基于雷达散射截面(RCS)规避雷达威胁的飞行轨迹优化问题,提出了低可探测性三维轨迹优化的求解方法.通过B样条拟合构建连续可微的RCS数据模型,结合三维飞行动力学模型,建立规避雷达威胁下的飞行运动控制模型.将轨迹优化问题描述成为最优控制问题,其中飞行姿态控制、轨迹约束、边界条件作为约束条件,以降低雷达探测概率和减少飞行时间为目标函数.运用高斯伪谱法( GPM)将连续的最优控制问题转换为离散的非线性规划问题进行求解.仿真结果证明本文方法实现了求解单基地雷达和双基地雷达探测环境中低可探测性三维轨迹优化问题,有效降低了飞行过程中的雷达探测概率和暴露时间.  相似文献

Several problems in the assignment of parallel redundant components to systems composed of elements subject to failure are considered. In each case the problem is to make an assignment which maximizes the system reliability subject to system constraints. Three distinct problems; are treated. The first is the classical problem of maximizing system reliability under total cost or weight constraints when components are subject to a single type of failure. The second problem deals with components which are subject to two types of failure and minimizes the probability of one mode of system failure subject to a constraint on the probability of the other mode of system failure. The third problem deals with components which may either fail to operate or may operate prematurely. System reliability is maximized subject to a constraint ori system safety. In each case the problem is formulated as an integer linear program. This has an advantage over alternative dynamic programming formulations in that standard algorithms may be employed to obtain numerical results.  相似文献

A policy of periodic replacement with minimal repair at failure is considered for a complex system. Under such a policy the system is replaced at multiples of some period T while minimal repair is performed at any intervening system failures. The cost of a minimal repair to the system is assumed to be a nonde-creasing function of its age. A simple expression is derived for the expected minimal repair cost in an interval in terms of the cost function and the failure rate of the system. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an optimal replacement interval are exhibited in the case where the system life distribution is strictly increasing failure rate (IFR).  相似文献

The problem of imperfect preventive maintenance (pm) and replacement schedule for a system which works below a specified failure rate is studied. For a given planning period, the optimal schedule for replacements to minimize the total cost is obtained. We consider the optimal replacement problem for a fault tolerant system comprised of N components. The components are distingushable, and the state of the system is given by knowing exactly which components are operationl and which have failed. The individual component failure rates depend on the state of the entire system. We assume that the rate at which the system produces income decreases as the system deteriorates and the system replacement cost rises. Individual components cannot be replaced. We give a greedy-type algorithm that produces the replacement policy that maximizes the long-run net system income per unit time.  相似文献

We consider state-age-dependent replacement policies for a multistate deteriorating system. We assume that operating cost rates and replacement costs are both functions of the underlying states. Replacement times and sojourn times in different states are all state-dependent random variables. The optimization criterion is to minimize the expected long-run cost rate. A policy-improvement algorithm to derive the optimal policy is presented. We show that under reasonable assumptions, the optimal replacement policies have monotonic properties. In particular, when the failure-rate functions are nonincreasing, or when all the replacement costs and the expected replacement times are independent of state, we show that the optimal policies are only state dependent. We consider the integrated problem of optimally maintaining an imperfect, deteriorating sensor and the safety‐critical system it monitors. The sensor's costless observations of the binary state of the system become less informative over time. A costly full inspection may be conducted to perfectly discern the state of the system, after which the system is replaced if it is in the out‐of‐control state. In addition, a full inspection provides the opportunity to replace the sensor. We formulate the problem of adaptively scheduling full inspections and sensor replacements using a partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP) model. The objective is to minimize the total expected discounted costs associated with system operation, full inspection, system replacement, and sensor replacement. We show that the optimal policy has a threshold structure and demonstrate the value of coordinating system and sensor maintenance via numerical examples. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper does not present a new result, rather it is meant to illustrate the choice of modelling procedures available to an analyst in a typical inventory control problem. The same “average cost per unit time” expression is developed by three quite different procedures. This variety of approaches, as well as the recounting of the author's chronological efforts to solve the problem, should be of interest to the reader. The specific inventory problem studied is one where the controller of an item is faced with random opportunities for replenishment at a reduced setup cost; the problem is an integral component of the broader problem of inventory control of a group of items whose replenishments are coordinated to reduce the costs of production, procurement, and/or transportation.  相似文献

We develop and estimate optimal age replacement policies for devices whose age is measured in two time scales. For example, the age of a jet engine can be measured in the number of flight hours and the number of landings. Under a single‐scale age replacement policy, a device is replaced at age τ or upon failure, whichever occurs first. We show that a natural generalization to two scales is to replace nonfailed devices when their usage path crosses the boundary of a two‐dimensional region M, where M is a lower set with respect to the matrix partial order. For lifetimes measured in two scales, we consider devices that age along linear usage paths. We generalize the single‐scale long‐run average cost, estimate optimal two‐scale policies, and give an example. We note that these policies are strongly consistent estimators of the true optimal policies under mild conditions, and study small‐sample behavior using simulation. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
