A new method for the solution of minimax and minisum location–allocation problems with Euclidean distances is suggested. The method is based on providing differentiable approximations to the objective functions. Thus, if we would like to locate m service facilities with respect to n given demand points, we have to minimize a nonlinear unconstrained function in the 2m variables x1,y1, ?,xm,ym. This has been done very efficiently using a quasi-Newton method. Since both the original problems and their approximations are neither convex nor concave, the solutions attained may be only local minima. Quite surprisingly, for small problems of locating two or three service points, the global minimum was reached even when the initial position was far from the final result. In both the minisum and minimax cases, large problems of locating 10 service facilities among 100 demand points have been solved. The minima reached in these problems are only local, which is seen by having different solutions for different initial guesses. For practical purposes, one can take different initial positions and choose the final result with best values of the objective function. The likelihood of the best results obtained for these large problems to be close to the global minimum is discussed. We also discuss the possibility of extending the method to cases in which the costs are not necessarily proportional to the Euclidean distances but may be more general functions of the demand and service points coordinates. The method also can be extended easily to similar three-dimensional problems.  相似文献

Herein are introduced noncooperative points of n-person games defined on compact and convex sets in a Euclidean space and continuous payoff functions, which are natural extensions of the respective concepts of maximin, minimax strategies and saddle points of two-person games. The conc:ept of equilibrium point appears as a special of one of those. As a particular case, we examine such points for the mixed extension of finite n-person games; finally, a related topic is illustrated. Whenever n demand points are located on a hemisphere, spherical location problems can be solved easily using geometrical methods or mathematical programming. A method based on a linear programming formulation with four constraints is presented to determine whether n demand points are on a hemisphere. The formulation is derived from a modified minimax spherical location problem whose Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions are the constraints of the linear program. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

An algorithm is given for the conditional p-center problem, namely, the optimal location of one or more additional facilities in a region with given demand points and one or more preexisting facilities. The solution dealt with here involves the minimax criterion and Euclidean distances in two-dimensional space. The method used is a generalization to the present conditional case of a relaxation method previously developed for the unconditional p-center problems. Interestingly, its worst-case complexity is identical to that of the unconditional version, and in practice, the conditional algorithm is more efficient. This article is concerned with the optimal location of any number (n) of facilities in relation to any number (m) of destinations on the Euclidean plane. The criterion to be satisfied is the minimization of total weighted distances where the distances are rectangular. The destinations may be either single points, lines or rectangular areas. A gradient reduction solution procedure is described which has the property that the direction of descent is determined by the geometrical properties of the problem.  相似文献

An equity model between groups of demand points is proposed. The set of demand points is divided into two or more groups. For example, rich and poor neighborhoods and urban and rural neighborhoods. We wish to provide equal service to the different groups by minimizing the deviation from equality among groups. The distance to the closest facility is a measure of the quality of service. Once the facilities are located, each demand point has a service distance. The objective function, to be minimized, is the sum of squares of differences between all pairs of service distances between demand points in different groups. The problem is analyzed and solution techniques are proposed for the location of a single facility in the plane. Computational experiments for problems with up to 10,000 demand points and rectilinear, Euclidean, or general ?p distances illustrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. When locating facilities over the earth or in space, a planar location model is no longer valid and we must use a spherical surface. In this article, we consider the one-and two-center problems on a sphere that contains n demand points. The problem is to locate facilities to minimize the maximum distance from any demand point to the closest facility. We present an O(n) algorithm for the one-center problem when a hemisphere contains all demand points and also give an O(n) algorithm for determining whether or not the hemisphere property holds. We present an O(n3 log n) algorithm for the two-center problem for arbitrarily located demand points. In this article we investigate the problem of locating a facility among a given set of demand points when the weights associated with each demand point change in time in a known way. It is assumed that the location of the facility can be changed one or more times during the time horizon. We need to find the time “breaks” when the location of the facility is to be changed, and the location of the facility during each time segment between breaks. We investigate the minisum Weber problem and also minimax facility location. For the former we show how to calculate the objective function for given time breaks and optimally solve the rectilinear distance problem with one time break and linear change of weights over time. Location of multiple time breaks is also discussed. For minimax location problems we devise two algorithms that solve the problem optimally for any number of time breaks and any distance metric. These algorithms are also applicable to network location problems.  相似文献

A method is presented to locate and allocate p new facilities in relation to n existing facilities. Each of the n existing facilities has a requirement flow which must be supplied by the new facilities. Rectangular distances are assumed to exist between all facilities. The algorithm proceeds in two stages. In the first stage a set of all possible optimal new facility locations is determined by a set reduction algorithm. The resultant problem is shown to be equivalent to finding the p-median of a weighted connected graph. In the second stage the optimal locations and allocations are obtained by using a technique for solving the p-median problem.  相似文献

We address a single product, continuous review model with stationary Poisson demand. Such a model has been effectively studied when mean demand is known. However, we are concerned with managing new items for which only a Bayesian prior distribution on the mean is available. As demand occurs, the prior is updated and our control parameters are revised. These include the reorder point (R) and reorder quantity (Q). Deemer, taking a clue from some earlier RAND work, suggested using a model appropriate for known mean, but using a Compound Poisson distribution for demand rather than Poisson to reflect uncertainty about the mean. Brown and Rogers also used this approach but within a periodic review context. In this paper we show how to compute optimum reorder points for a special problem closely related to the problem of real interest. In terms of the real problem, subject to a qualification to be discussed, the reorder points found are upper bounds for the optimum. At the same time, the reorder points found can never exceed those found by the Compound Poisson (Deemer) approach. And they can be smaller than those found when there is no uncertainty about the mean. As a check, the Compound Poisson and proposed approach are compared by simulation.  相似文献

The problem of detecting a minefield in the presence of clutter can be abstracted to that of detecting a spatial pattern within a set of point locations. The point locations are superpositions of several patterns, one of which corresponds to mines. In contrast to previous articles that take a formal, model‐based approach, this article proposes a statistical methodology that is distinctly exploratory. Each point location is considered separately, and its contributions to a global measure of spatial distances between locations are featured. Different patterns and unusual points can be more easily identified on the new scale. A point is placed at random on the real line according to some known distribution F, and a search is made for this point, beginning at some starting points s on the line, and moving along the line according to some function x(t). The objective of this article is to maximize the probability of finding the point while traveling at most d units. Characterizations of simple optimal searches are found for arbitrary distributions, for continuous distributions with continuous density everywhere (e.g., normal, Cauchy, triangular), and for continuous distributions with density which is continuous on its support (e.g., exponential, uniform). These optimal searches are also shown to be optimal for maximization of the expected number of points found if the points are placed on the line independently from a known distribution F.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the gradual covering problem. Within a certain distance from the facility the demand point is fully covered, and beyond another specified distance the demand point is not covered. Between these two given distances the coverage is linear in the distance from the facility. This formulation can be converted to the Weber problem by imposing a special structure on its cost function. The cost is zero (negligible) up to a certain minimum distance, and it is a constant beyond a certain maximum distance. Between these two extreme distances the cost is linear in the distance. An iterative solution method is presented for solving the multifacility location problem with Euclidean distances under the minimax criterion. The iterative procedure is based on the transformation of the multifacility minimax problem into a sequence of squared Euclidean minisum problems which have analytical solutions. n independent jobs are to be scheduled nonpreemptively on a single machine so as to minimize some performance measure. Federgruen and Mosheiov [2] show that a large class of such scheduling problems can be optimized by solving either a single instance or a finite sequence of instances of the so-called SQC problem, in which all the jobs have a fixed or controllable common due date and the sum of general quasiconvex functions of the job completion times is to be minimized. In this note we point out that this is not always true. The problem considered involves the assignment of n facilities to n specified locations. Each facility has a given nonnegative flow from each of the other facilities. The objective is to minimize the sum of transportation costs. Assume these n locations are given as points on a two-dimensional plane and transportation costs are proportional to weighted rectangular distances. Then the problem is formulated as a binary mixed integer program. The number of integer variables (all binary) involved equals the number of facilities squared. Without increasing the number of integer variables, the formulation is extended to include “site costs” Computational results of the formulation are presented.  相似文献

In this paper the problem of finding an optimal schedule for the n-job, M-machine flowshop scheduling problem is considered when there is no intermediate space to hold partially completed jobs and the objective function is to minimize the weighted sum of idle times on all machines. By assuming that jobs are processed as early as possible, the problem is modeled as a traveling salesman problem and solved by known solution techniques for the traveling salesman problem. A sample problem is solved and a special case, one involving only two machines, is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a variant of the classical transportation problem as well as of the bottleneck transportation problem, which we call the minimax transportation problem. The problem considered is to determine a feasible flow xij from a set of origins I to a set of destinations J for which max(i,j)εIxJ{cijxij} is minimum. In this paper, we develop a parametric algorithm and a primal-dual algorithm to solve this problem. The parametric algorithm solves a transportation problem with parametric upper bounds and the primal-dual algorithm solves a sequence of related maximum flow problems. The primal-dual algorithm is shown to be polynomially bounded. Numerical investigations with both the algorithms are described in detail. The primal-dual algorithm is found to be computationally superior to the parametric algorithm and it can solve problems up to 1000 origins, 1000 destinations and 10,000 arcs in less than 1 minute on a DEC 10 computer system. The optimum solution of the minimax transportation problem may be noninteger. We also suggest a polynomial algorithm to convert this solution into an integer optimum solution.  相似文献

We consider the Capacitated Traveling Salesman Problem with Pickups and Deliveries (CTSPPD). This problem is characterized by a set of n pickup points and a set of n delivery points. A single product is available at the pickup points which must be brought to the delivery points. A vehicle of limited capacity is available to perform this task. The problem is to determine the tour the vehicle should follow so that the total distance traveled is minimized, each load at a pickup point is picked up, each delivery point receives its shipment and the vehicle capacity is not violated.
