A sample is taken from a continuous multivariate distribution. The problem is to test the hypothesis that the unknown joint cumulative distribution function is equal to a completely specified function. The observed data are transformed so that the hypothesis being tested is that the distribution is uniform over a unit hypercube. If only neighboring alternatives are considered, it is shown that the numbers of observations falling in a gradually increasing number of subcubes are asymptotically sufficient. It is shown that for all asymptotic probability calculations, we can assume that the joint distribution of the numbers of observations can be considered to be the distribution of slightly rounded off normal random variables. Tests based on these facts are constructed.  相似文献

In an ordered sample from a given population, a few of the consecutive observations from somewhere in the middle may be missing Further, we may be constrained to use a few, and not all, of the remaining observations for purposes of estimation of population parameters. In this paper, such a situation is considered for the double exponential distribution and best linear unbiased estimates are obtained for its parameters, based on a choice of an optimum set of order statistics when the number of observations in the set are prefixed.  相似文献

Take n independent identically distributed (IID) observations from a continuous r-variate population, and choose some order statistics from each of the r variates. These order statistics are used to construct a grid in r-dimensional space. Under certain conditions, it is shown that as n increases we can choose an increasing number of order statistics in such a way that the asymptotic joint distribution of the chosen order statistics and of the frequencies of sample points falling in the cells of the grid can be assumed to be a normal distribution. Estimates of the location and scale parameters, linear in the order statistics of a Type II censored or complete sample, from a continuous symmetric unimodal distribution satisfying certain conditions are obtained. Their coefficients are explicit functions of the expectations of the order statistics or population quantiles from the known parameter-free standardized distribution. Linear estimates with simpler coefficients are also obtained. The theorems state the complete sample case, and the singly and doubly censored cases. The more general case, the multiple censoring, is an extension of these cases and is indicated. All the estimates obtained are asymptotically efficient in the strict sense.  相似文献

In this work we consider spread of information which motivates the hearer to perform some specified action. The time to completion of an action is assumed to be a random variable and the main focus is on the number of completed actions by time t, X(t). Some models, which reflect different degree of centralization in the spread process, are analyzed and the distribution of X(t), as well as that of some other stochastic processes of interest, are obtained. The relevance to propagation of epidemics is pointed out. All models are solved by employing two interrelated concepts, namely, the order statistics property of stochastic processes and the binomial closure property of collections of distributions. In this respect, the work also serves as an illustration of the application of these useful concepts.  相似文献

This paper describes a technique for the calculation of the probability that a helicopter can lift a specified load, or number of loads with a specified frequency distribution, in a given geographical region. This probability is computed by determining the bivariate altitude-temperature probability distribution for the specified region. The payload capability at any given temperature and altitude is calculated from standard performance equations. By integrating this over the altitude-temperature distribution, it is possible to obtain the probability distribution of payload capability, from which the required probabilities of lifting specific loads can be determined.  相似文献

The intent of this paper is to demonstrate that the theory of stationary point processes is a useful tool for the analysis of stationary inventory systems. In conventional inventory theory, the equilibrium distributions for a specified inventory policy are obtained, whenever possible, by recursive or limiting procedures, or both. A different and more direct approach, based on stationary point processes, is proposed here. The time instants at which stock delivery is effected are viewed as points of the stationary point process, which possesses uniform statistical properties on the entire real axis; hence the equilibrium statistics of the inventory process can be calculated directly. In order to best illustrate this approach, various examples are given, including some that constitute new results.  相似文献

This paper presents a statistical decision analysis of a one-stage linear programming problem with deterministic constraints and stochastic criterion function. Procedures for obtaining numerical results are given which are applicable to any problem having this general form. We begin by stating the statistical decision problems to be considered, and then discuss the expected value of perfect information and the expected value of sample information. In obtaining these quantities, use is made of the distribution of the optimal value of the linear programming problem with stochastic criterion function, and so we discuss Monte Carlo and numerical integration procedures for estimating the mean of this distribution. The case in which the random criterion vector has a multivariate Normal distribution is discussed separately, and more detailed methods are offered. We discuss dual problems, including some relationships of this work with other work in probabilistic linear programming. An example is given in Appendix A showing application of the methods to a sample problem. In Appendix B we consider the accuracy of a procedure for approximating the expected value of information.  相似文献

This article considers the problem of monitoring Poisson count data when sample sizes are time varying without assuming a priori knowledge of sample sizes. Traditional control charts, whose control limits are often determined before the control charts are activated, are constructed based on perfect knowledge of sample sizes. In practice, however, future sample sizes are often unknown. Making an inappropriate assumption of the distribution function could lead to unexpected performance of the control charts, for example, excessive false alarms in the early runs of the control charts, which would in turn hurt an operator's confidence in valid alarms. To overcome this problem, we propose the use of probability control limits, which are determined based on the realization of sample sizes online. The conditional probability that the charting statistic exceeds the control limit at present given that there has not been a single alarm before can be guaranteed to meet a specified false alarm rate. Simulation studies show that our proposed control chart is able to deliver satisfactory run length performance for any time‐varying sample sizes. The idea presented in this article can be applied to any effective control charts such as the exponentially weighted moving average or cumulative sum chart. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The bottleneck transportation problem can be stated as follows: A set of supplies and a set of demands are specified such that the total supply is equal to the total demand. There is a transportation time associated between each supply point and each demand point. It is required to find a feasible distribution (of the supplies) which minimizes the maximum transportaton time associated between a supply point and a demand point such that the distribution between the two points is positive. In addition, one may wish to find from among all optimal solutions to the bottleneck transportation problem, a solution which minimizes the total distribution that requires the maximum time Two algorithms are given for solving the above problems. One of them is a primal approach in the sense that improving fcasible solutions are obtained at each iteration. The other is a “threshold” algorithm which is found to be far superior computationally.  相似文献

Log‐normal and Weibull distributions are the most popular distributions for modeling skewed data. In this paper, we consider the ratio of the maximized likelihood in choosing between the two distributions. The asymptotic distribution of the logarithm of the maximized likelihood ratio has been obtained. It is observed that the asymptotic distribution is independent of the unknown parameters. The asymptotic distribution has been used to determine the minimum sample size required to discriminate between two families of distributions for a user specified probability of correct selection. We perform some numerical experiments to observe how the asymptotic methods work for different sample sizes. It is observed that the asymptotic results work quite well even for small samples also. In this article we study the estimation of the average excess life θ in a two-parameter exponential distribution with a known linear relationship between α (the minimum life) and θ of the form α = aθ, where a is known and positive. A comparison of the efficiencies of estimators which are linear combinations of the smallest sample value and the sample sum of deviations from the smallest sample value and the maximum likelihood estimators is made for various sample sizes and different values of a. It is shown that these estimators are dominated in the risk by the minimum-risk scale equivariant estimator based on sufficient statistics. A class of Bayes estimators for inverted gamma priors is constructed and shown to include a minimum-risk scale equivariant estimator in it. All the members of this class can be computed easily.  相似文献

One important thrust in the reliability literature is the development of statistical procedures under various “restricted family” model assumptions such as the increasing failure rate (IFR) and decreasing failure rate (DFR) distributions. However, relatively little work has been done on the problem of testing fit to such families as a null hypothesis. Barlow and Campo proposed graphical methods for assessing goodness of fit to the IFR model in single-sample problems. For the same problem with complete data, Tenga and Santner studied several analytic tests of the null hypothesis that the common underlying distribution is IFR versus the alternative that it is not IFR for complete data. This article considers the same problem for the case of four types of censored data: (i) Type I (time) censoring, (ii) Type I1 (order statistic) censoring, (iii) a hybrid of Type I and Type I1 censoring, and (iv) random censorship. The least favorable distributions of several intuitive test statistics are derived for each of the four types of censoring so that valid small-sample-size α tests can be constructed from them. The segregated storage problem involves the optimal distribution of products among compartments with the restriction that only one product may be stored in each compartment. The storage capacity of each compartment, the storage demand for each product, and the linear cost of storing one unit of a product in a given compartment are specified. The problem is reformulated as a large set-packing problem, and a column generation scheme is devised to solve the associated linear programming problem. In case of fractional solutions, a branch and bound procedure is utilized. Computational results are presented.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the gradual covering problem. Within a certain distance from the facility the demand point is fully covered, and beyond another specified distance the demand point is not covered. Between these two given distances the coverage is linear in the distance from the facility. This formulation can be converted to the Weber problem by imposing a special structure on its cost function. The cost is zero (negligible) up to a certain minimum distance, and it is a constant beyond a certain maximum distance. Between these two extreme distances the cost is linear in the distance. Military Standard 105D has been almost universally adopted by government and private consumers for the lot-by-lot sampling inspection of product which may be inspected on a dichotomoun basis The plan specifies, for each lot size, a random sample size and set of acceptance numbers (maximum allowable number of defectives in each sample). The acceptance numbers are based upon the binomial distribution and depend upon the quality required by the purchaser. Where several consecutive lots are submitted, a shift to less severe (“reduced”) inspection or more severe (“tightened”) inspection is specified when the ongoing quality is very high or low. Further experience permits a return to normal sampling from either of these states This paper examines the long range costs of such a sampling scheme. The three inspection types are considered as three distinct Markov chains, with periodic transitions from chain to chain. The expected sample size and the expected proportion of rejected product are determined as a function of the two parameters under control of the manufacturer, lot size and product quality. Some numerical examples are given which illustrate how to compute the overall cost of sampling inspection. Suggestions are made concerning the choice of parameters to minimize this cost.  相似文献

The loading problem involves the optimal allocation of n objects, each having a specified weight and value, to m boxes, each of specified capacity. While special cases of these problems can be solved with relative ease, the general problem having variable item weights and box sizes can become very difficult to solve. This paper presents a heuristic procedure for solving large loading problems of the more general type. The procedure uses a surrogate procedure for reducing the original problem to a simpler knapsack problem, the solution of which is then employed in searching for feasible solutions to the original problem. The procedure is easy to apply, and is capable of identifying optimal solutions if they are found.  相似文献
