A branch and bound algorithm is developed for a class of allocation problems in which some constraint coefficients depend on the values of certain of the decision variables. Were it not for these dependencies, the problems could be solved by linear programming. The algorithm is developed in terms of a strategic deployment problem in which it is desired to find a least-cost transportation fleet, subject to constraints on men/materiel requirements in the event of certain hypothesized contingencies. Among the transportation vehicles available for selection are aircraft which exhibit the characteristic that the amount of goods deliverable by an aircraft on a particular route in a given time period (called aircraft productivity and measured in kilotons/aircraft/month) depends on the ratio of type 1 to type 2 aircraft used on that particular route. A model is formulated in which these relationships are first approximated by piecewise linear functions. A branch and bound algorithm for solving the resultant nonlinear problem is then presented; the algorithm solves a sequence of linear programming problems. The algorithm is illustrated by a sample problem and comments concerning its practicality are made.  相似文献

A descent algorithm simultaneously capable of solving linear programming, piecewise linear convex minimization, and the linear complementarity problem is developed. Conditions are given under which a solution can be found in a finite number of iterations using the geometry of the problem. A computer algorithm is developed and test problems are solved by both this method and Lemke's algorithm. Current results indicate a decrease in the number of cells visited but an increase in the total number of pivots needed to solve the problem.  相似文献

The fixed charge problem is a nonlinear programming problem of practical interest in business and industry. Yet, until now no computationally feasible exact method of solution for large problems had been developed. In this paper an exact algorithm is presented which is computationally feasible for large problems. The algorithm is based upon a branch and bound approach, with the additional feature that the amount of computer storage required remains constant throughout (for a problem of any given size). Also presented are three suboptimal heuristic algorithms which are of interest because, although they do not guarantee that the true optimal solution will be found, they usually yield very good solutions and are extremely rapid techniques. Computational results are described for several of the heuristic methods and for the branch and bound algorithm.  相似文献

Three methods are used to solve the following problem: For P, a positive constant, maximize (P. Reliability-cost) of a system with standby redundancy. The results show that a method which rounds a noninteger solution to the nearest integer solution can lead to tremendous mistakes. However, neither a well known dynamic programming algorithm nor a previously developed branch and bound technique are able to solve large size problems. The solution of problems of large dimension thus requires the use of the noninteger solution of the first method to limit the number of possible solutions when using either the dynamic programming algorithm or a modified branch and bound technique. With this assistance, the branch and bound technique is able to solve large problems in a short amount of computational time.  相似文献

This paper presents an algorithm for solving the integer programming problem possessing a separable nonlinear objective function subject to linear constraints. The method is based on a generalization of the Balas implicit enumeration scheme. Computational experience is given for a set of seventeen linear and seventeen nonlinear test problems. The results indicate that the algorithm can solve the nonlinear integer programming problem in roughly the equivalent time required to solve the linear integer programming problem of similar size with existing algorithms. Although the algorithm is specifically designed to solve the nonlinear problem, the results indicate that the algorithm compares favorably with the Branch and Bound algorithm in the solution of linear integer programming problems.  相似文献

The integer programming literature contains many algorithms for solving all-integer programming problems but, in general, existing algorithms are less than satisfactory even in solving problems of modest size. In this paper we present a new technique for solving the all-integer, integer programming problem. This algorithm is a hybrid (i.e., primal-dual) cutting-plane method which alternates between a primal-feasible stage related to Young's simplified primal algorithm, and a dual-infeasible stage related to Gomory's dual all-integer algorithm. This paper investigates a new procedure for solving the general-variable pure integer linear programming problem. A simple transformation converts the problem to one of constructing nonnegative integer solutions to a system of linear diophantine equations. Rubin's sequential algorithm, an extension of the classic Euclidean algorithm, is used to find an integer solution to this system of equations. Two new theorems are proved on the properties of integer solutions to linear systems. This permits a modified Fourier-Motzkin elimination method to be used to construct a nonnegative integer solution. An experimental computer code was developed for the algorithm to solve some test problems selected from the literature. The computational results, though limited, are encouraging when compared with the Gomory all-integer algorithm.  相似文献

This paper presents a linear programming model of a fleet of vessels which is required to transport quantities of cargo, such as coal, iron ore, limestone, and salt from certain producing ports to specific destination ports. We describe the development of a heuristic algorithm for determining efficient 2-dimensional packings in cargo aircraft where cargo placement constraints are critically important in determining the feasibility of packing locations. We review the performance of a new algorithm versus some traditional ones for aircraft loading. The algorithm is also tested in a more generalized setting where there exist no additional constraints on items, to suggest applicability in other environments. The new algorithm has been used worldwide in the Automated Air Load Planning System (AALPS) for cargo aircraft loading, with much success. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The fixed charge problem is a mixed integer mathematical programming problem which has proved difficult to solve in the past. In this paper we look at a special case of that problem and show that this case can be solved by formulating it as a set-covering problem. We then use a branch-and-bound integer programming code to solve test fixed charge problems using the setcovering formulation. Even without a special purpose set-covering algorithm, the results from this solution procedure are dramatically better than those obtained using other solution procedures.  相似文献

We consider a ship stowage planning problem where steel coils with known destination ports are to be loaded onto a ship. The coils are to be stowed on the ship in rows. Due to their heavy weight and cylindrical shape, coils can be stowed in at most two levels. Different from stowage problems in previous studies, in this problem there are no fixed positions on the ship for the coils due to their different sizes. At a destination port, if a coil to be unloaded is not at a top position, those blocking it need to be shuffled. In addition, the stability of ship has to be maintained after unloading at each destination port. The objective for the stowage planning problem is to minimize a combination of ship instability throughout the entire voyage, the shuffles needed for unloading at the destination ports, and the dispersion of coils to be unloaded at the same destination port. We formulate the problem as a novel mixed integer linear programming model. Several valid inequalities are derived to help reducing solution time. A tabu search (TS) algorithm is developed for the problem with the initial solution generated using a construction heuristic. To evaluate the proposed TS algorithm, numerical experiments are carried out on problem instances of three different scales by comparing it with a model‐based decomposition heuristic, the classic TS algorithm, the particle swarm optimization algorithm, and the manual method used in practice. The results show that for small problems, the proposed algorithm can generate optimal solutions. A transit vessel traffic scheduling algorithm has been developed to limit the negative effects on cargo volume throughput in two‐way waterways where separation distances between transiting vessels must be maintained and passage restrictions may hold. It runs in time that is polynomial in the number of ships involved in the computation and finds schedules which increase the utilization of waterways. Three examples illustrate its use. The first example is situated in the Sunda Strait where the algorithm is used to enhance the safety of merchant shipping against a terrorist threat. It illustrates important features of the algorithm and demonstrates how it can be used with cross traffic. The second example is situated in the Strait of Istanbul and offers a comparison between the developed algorithm and the transit vessel scheduling algorithm of Ulusçu et al., J Navig 62 (2009), 59–77. This was done using a plausible model of the Strait of Istanbul. The third and last example shows how the algorithm can be used to schedule transit vessel traffic in two‐way waterways with junctions. This feature is especially useful in congested waters with a high risk of collisions like the Inland Sea of Japan. 针对随机条件下动态规划模型的主要特点,运用智能算法混合编程理论,设计了一种探索多阶段决策问题的智能混合算法.该算法首先将问题转化成一族同类型的一步决策子问题,然后利用随机模拟和遗传算法,依据训练样本形成的训练神经元网络,在单步决策中寻求最优策略和最优目标值,逐个求解,再据初始状态逆序求出最优策略序列和最优目标值.仿真结果表明,该算法具有一定的通用性,初始设计点可以随机产生,其计算精度不因函数的非线性强弱而受影响,对目标和约束的限制较少,可应用于多种形式的随机多阶段决策优化问题,较好地满足了随机动态规划模型求解和优化的要求.  相似文献

We present a new algorithm for solving the problem of minimizing a nonseparable concave function over a polyhedron. The algorithm is of the branch-and-bound type. It finds a globally optimal extreme point solution for this problem in a finite number of steps. One of the major advantages of the algorithm is that the linear programming subproblems solved during the branch-and-bound search each have the same feasible region. We discuss this and other advantages and disadvantages of the algorithm. We also discuss some preliminary computational experience we have had with our computer code for implementing the algorithm. This computational experience involved solving several bilinear programming problems with the code.  相似文献

This article describes a multifacility capacity expansion model in which the different facility types represent different quality levels. These facility types are used to satisfy a variety of deterministic demands over a finite number of discrete time periods. Applications for the model can be found in cable sizing problems associated with the planning of communication networks. It is assumed that the cost function associated with expanding the capacity of any facility type is concave, and that a joint set-up cost is incurred in any period in which one or more facilities are expanded. The model is formulated as a network flow problem from which properties associated with optimal solutions are derived. Using these properties, we develop a dynamic programming algorithm that finds optimal solutions for problems with a few facilities, and a heuristic algorithm that finds near-optimal solutions for larger problems. Numerical examples for both algorithms are discussed.  相似文献

The problem of assigning computer program modules to functionally similar processors in a distributed computer network is investigated. The modules of a program must be assigned among processors in such a way as to minimize interprocessor communication while taking advantage of affinities of certain modules to particular processors. This problem is formulated as a zero-one quadratic programming problem, but is more conveniently modeled as a directed acyclic search graph. The model is developed and a backward shortest path labeling algorithm is given that produces an assignment of program modules to processors. A non-backtracking branch-and-bound algorithm is described that uses a local neighborhood search at each stage of the search graph.  相似文献

In many decision-making situations, each activity that can be undertaken may have associated with it both a fixed and a variable cost. Recently, we have encountered serveral practical problems in which the fixed cost of undertaking an activity depends upon which other activities are also undertaken. To our knowledge, no existing optimization model can accomodate such a fixed cost structure. To do so, we have therefore developed a new model called the interactive fixed charge linear programming problem (IFCLP). In this paper we present and motivate problem (IFCLP), study some of its characteristics, and present a finite branch and bound algorithm for solving it.
